Team Goals, Divisions, and Levels

Goals

Mercer Island Select Baseball is designed to be a developmental program, but played and practiced at a higher level of competition. We want to be competitive against other community-based programs.

  • Cultivate a love of baseball (for everyone)

  • Develop physical and mental baseball skills

  • Build connection with the team and other players

Divisions and Levels

How teams are formed

  • Each year, we host try-outs in the summer for the upcoming year

  • Every player must try-out, and is assigned to a team by the MISB.

  • More information on try-outs here, on the “Try-Outs” page

Age divisions offered

We form teams from second through sixth grade. Players are required to try-out with their grade level.

As a rule, MISB does not have players “play up” or “play down” outside their grade level unless there is a specific need to form team based on “club age”.

See try-outs page (here) and FAQ section (here) for more detail on age. You can look up your child’s club age here.

For example, a 3rd grader born in May could be eligible for 8U select. MISB would have them play with the 3rd grade team, unless the 3rd grade team was full and the 8U team needed an extra player in order to form. This emphasizes keeping the kids with their friends they are in school with, as well as prepares them for future play, where they will play with other kids in their grade.

Team levels within each age level

We typically have two teams of 11 to 12 players at each division, but pending try out numbers, can have one or three teams.

Each player for plays for MISB is also required to play MI Little League. The schedule below reflects both Select and Little League.
